How to page is effective for accounts created
after Spring Term 2011

The login password for WinXP and iMAC smb are the same.
If you change your WinXP password it also changes your iMAC smb password and vice versa.
How to change your two passwords from WinXP or Win7:
Read ALL the README files found on your H: drive.

Make sure you change your password for both the WinXP (samba) and for the SSH (Linux) login.


NOTE: Your SSH password is in this format: union{your IDnum} (ie, union1234567)
Use this as your Linux or ssh password when you log into antipasto.

To change your passwords:

  1. To change your WinXP Password type CTRL-ALT-DELETE. (That is, use two fingers to hold down the CTRL and ALT keys on the keyboard and then press down the DELETE key.)
    • In the dialog box click on the "Change Password" box.
    • Type your old password and then give yourself a new password.
    • After doing that please log off and login again to make sure your new password has been set.
  2. To change your SSH (Linux) password do the following.
    • Go to the H: drive and right click on the file README.samba.password.txt and select "Open With" and then "Wordpad"
    • At the bottom you will see your initial WinXP (samba) and Linux (ssh) passwords listed.
      NOTE: If your SSH password is not listed the format is: union{your IDnum} (ie, union1234567)
    • Open ssh and use your username and the Linux password to log into antipasto.union.edu
    • When you are logged in on antipasto.union.edu, at the command line prompt type:
      • yppasswd (to change your Linux password)
      • You will first have to type the inital password given to you, a new password which you select and then repeat that password.
      • After doing that please log off and login again to make sure your new password has been set.
How to change your two passwords from an iMAC:
Read ALL the README files found in your UNIXFiles folder.

Make sure you change your password for both the iMAC login (smb) and for the SSH (Linux) login.


NOTE: Your SSH password is in this format: union{your IDnum} (ie, union1234567)
Use this as your Linux or ssh password when you log into antipasto.

To change your passwords:

  1. To change your iMAC (smb) login Password under "Applications" --> "Utilities" find the "Terminal" icon and open a command line terminal.
    • On the command line type "ssh your username@antipasto"
    • You will be asked for a password, use your Linux or ssh password.
    • When you get logged in, on the command line type "smbpasswd".
    • It will ask you for a new password. [NOTE: when you type there will be no response from the keyboard.] Then hit return. It will ask you to retype the password (again there will be no response). When you hit return there will be NO message if you have successfully changed the password.
    • After doing that please disconnect and login again to make sure your new password has been set.

  2. To change your SSH (Linux) password do the following.
    • As above open a terminal and use your username and Linux password to log into antipasto.union.edu
    • When you are logged into antipasto.union.edu, at the command line prompt type:
    • yppasswd (to change your Linux password)
    • You will first have to type the initial (old) password given to you, a new password which you select and then repeat that password. [Once again what you type will not appear on the screen.]
    • After doing that please log off and login again to make sure your new password has been set.
